Regularise your mine or face sanctions

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has warned illegal miners in the country to regularise their operations or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.

He gave this warning in Abeokuta at the biennial stakeholders’ summit on illegal sand mining organised by the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited in conjunction with Ogun State Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Fayemi said the Federal Government had revived the Special Mines Surveillance Task force saddled with the responsibility of checking the activities of illegal miners.
The minister, who was represented by the Director, Mines Inspectorate, Mr. Karnap Wuyep, also said the task force would work on reducing land degradation and plugging revenue leakages, among others.
He said, “We have mining officers in every state of the federation. They monitor and carry out surveillance on mining fields, and take necessary steps to nip illegal mining in the bud.
